Brothers, Alf and Ken Woods  built the Para Rd pool in 1967. Alf was involved with the Essendon swimming Club for many years as President, committee member and club member. Ken was a swimming teacher and coach operating from  the City Baths before Para Rd was built. Alf’s company, Blue Sea Pools, built the pool.

In 1987  the brothers sold the Swim School to John and Diny Van Dyk. Diny had been a controversial Swimming teacher around Melbourne since 1970. Originally believing in “drown proofing” children,  experience developed her teaching methods and she became a very respected speaker and author about young children learning swimming.

In 2001 the Van Dyk’s retired selling the Swim School and their program to P&J Gavin Swimming Schools.

P&J Gavin Swimming was established in 1976 teaching at various pools around Melbourne including from 1984 and still continuing, the Sydenham Street Swimming School in Moonee Ponds.

Combining the knowledge and experience (60 Years) of both Swim School programs has led to a program able to cater for the needs of any learner in a simple and practical manner.
